Courses
The Institut des Cultures d’Islam offers linguistic and artistic training courses accessible to beginners and advanced students. Courses run from October to June and are taught by experienced teachers.
Arabic
The Institut des Cultures d’Islam offers courses in modern literary Arabic for children and adults. The Arabic language has developed greatly over the centuries, becoming an international language spoken by more than 300 million people.
Wolof
The Institut des Cultures d’Islam offers courses in Wolof for adults. Wolof is the most widely spoken language in Senegal — it has been enriched by contributions from other dialects, notably Arabic and French, while the latter remains the country’s official language. It is undergoing a cultural expansion in the country and is also gaining ground in Gambia and Mauritania.
Calligraphy
An emblem of classical Islamic art, calligraphy is taught by an internationally renowned master calligrapher/artist. This art form can be appreciated by the curious as well as the passionate, as the instructor’s approach favors both discovery and improvement. Speaking Arabic is not a requirement to attend this class.
